186: Beautiful High Performance Windows

Where do you go to get beautiful, high performance doors and windows, made in New Zealand?

In 2005 Christian and Sandra Rampe moved to New Zealand from Germany. Despite the milder climate of New Zealand, they were surprise just how cold they were here, inside their house. They were also surprised how much condensation there was on their windows, and how draughty the windows were. Welcome to New Zealand!

Chris had the solution for our sub standard windows. He trained as a joiner in Germany where he learnt the craft of making high quality doors and windows.

ThermaDura

Today Chris and Sandra run ThermaDura, a Dunedin based company specialising in timber framed conservatories. ThermaDura produces tilt-turn and tilt-slide doors and windows and they also have a range of blinds.

ThermaDura are the first company to produce a New Zealand manufactured window Certified by the Passive House Institute. This rigorous credential means some of ThermaDura’s windows can be easily selected by Passive House Designers using PHPP modelling software. It provides assurance that this product will perform and help building owners achieve Passive House Certification for their whole project.

ThermaDura produce Passive House Certified windows right here in New Zealand
