I’d love to help you optimise the energy efficiency, health and comfort of your design.
Passive House Consultants use Passive House Planning Package (PHPP) to quantify the likely performance of a building design. PHPP has become known for being surprising accurate at predicting the energy required to operate a house, and also the temperature likely to be experienced inside throughout the year.
Many energy models apply relatively simple methods to estimate performance based on heat flows through the walls, roof, floors and windows. Some might consider addition environmental inputs such as direct sunlight and how this interacts with thermal mass in the building.
PHPP does all this but more. The consideration of infiltration is one of the reasons for the accuracy of the tool. Air moving through the building envelope can carry much more heat and moisture than the energy that flows via conduction through under-insulated buildings.
If you have a plan for a new build or renovation, it’s definitely worth getting a PHPP model done, event if you’re not intending to get Passive House Certification (though this is also a really good idea).
